The emotional component
 
When there has been physical trauma or long-held stress and tension, there can be an emotional component that results in additional tightness and pain.  As restrictions are relieved, you may experience emotional as well as physical release.  Your therapist understands this - their role is to create a safe environmental for a release to happen.  If you want to work more on the emotional aspect of your pain, they can refer you to an experienced counselor.
